A passionate reprimand of the for-profit money bail system in the United States. The burdens of money bail fall disproportionately on poor communities of color and the system often prolongs one’s exposure to the criminal (in)justice system. This $14 Billion industry destroys individuals, families, and communities. So why is it still around? Who is profiting from the current system (both in terms of individuals and social groups)? What alternatives are there? Addressing these questions may be the first step towards meaningful reform.
